Listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers on iHeartRadio

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith says his recently-wrapped trip through South America was "exciting," but probably for a few reasons he didn't anticipate.

The rocker reportedly got death threats from Brazilian soccer fans after he pretended to stuff a jersey from one of the country's most popular teams down the back of his pants.  The shirt was thrown on stage during a drum clinic Smith was hosting last week in southern Brazil.

He tried to make up for the ill-advised antics by telling fans at the clinic that he loves everybody, and also took to Twitter the next day to apologize again.  He said his "joke about team rivalries went too far," and posted a photo of himself sporting the same kind of Flamengo jersey.

Smith and the rest of the Chili Peppers finished their South American tour Saturday with a performance in Rio de Janeiro.  Smith called the trip "unpredictable and unforgettable," and said he can't wait to return to the continent next year when the Peppers play Lollapalooza events in Chile and Argentina.
