Metallica Launches New MasterClass On 'Being A Band'

Who's better qualified to teach the finer points of being in a band than one of the biggest bands in history?

The four horsemen of Metallica are branching out into education this week in a new partnership with MasterClass, celebrating the band's 40th anniversary.

In the new MasterClass program professors James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo reflect on their decades together in the most successful heavy metal band of all-time. The band members offer an unprecedented look at how they collaborate creatively, how they maintain a relationship with their worldwide fanbase and how they have grown and stayed together for so long.

"We have sustained our bond for more than 40 years because we've learned a lot about each other and ourselves over time," said Hetfield. "In our class we not only teach MasterClass members how we write songs and find inspiration for our music, but how the experiences we've had together have contributed to successful creative collaboration."

Even by MasterClass standards, Metallica's 'Being a Band' class is unique, as it's the first time an entire collective has taught a MasterClass.

"With 40 years of sustained success, Metallica is arguably one of the greatest bands of all time," said David Rogier, founder and CEO of MasterClass. "For the first time, Metallica will bring MasterClass members along their dynamic creative process, teaching strategies for what it takes to be a band and demonstrating how individuals with big ideas can start, maintain and work together as a collective."

Metallica's 'Being A Band' is available exclusively to MasterClass subscribers, along with unlimited access to more than 100 educational programs.
